The anatomy of the brain, with a general view of the nervous system by Johann Spurzheim, translated by Robert Willis and published in London by S. Highley in 1826, is the first English edition of this early nineteenth century medical text associated with phrenological theory. Spurzheim, a collaborator of Franz Joseph Gall, advanced anatomical classifications of the brain and nervous system that circulated widely in Britain and Europe. This edition includes eleven plates, as stated on the title page. No provenance marks noted. Good. Text block secure; hardcover boards and binding show wear, rubbing, and some staining; pages exhibit age toning and spotting, mainly in the preliminaries, with text complete.
