Two essays and forty translations, with a preface by Alfred Kreymborg. At the time of this study's publication, Spire had enjoyed an eventful life: wounded in a Dreyfus Affair-related duel, founding organizations to help ailing workers, joining the French government, becoming a Zionist activist, and, oh yes, publishing poetry. (In 1940, Spire fled France for the United States to teach French literature and complete a study of poetics.) 6.5" x 9.5". 144 pages. Seller Inventory # 0696
