From the library of George Stephens at Husaby, with his book plate. Carlander III, 358f. First edition, with a fine provenance. Samuel Pegge (1733-1800) was an antiquary, poet and a musician. This, his very amusing and readable analysis and history of the London cockney dialect, is relying quite heavily on Dr. Johnson. A second edition was published in 1814 and a third in 1844. George Stephens (1813-1893) was an runic archaologist and a philologist, writing on the English, Anglo-Saxon and Old Norse languages. Stephens only used his Exlibris during his youth: ?It is thousand years ago I used Exlibris?, he wrote in 1888 to Carlander.
