Fra Angelico développe une nouvelle conception de l'architecture, de la structuration de l'espace, et invente un nouveau rapport à la figure humaine. Le catalogue reconsidère également la chronologie en s'appuyant sur quelques oeuvres clefs. Le retable de l'Annonciation conservé au Prado tient aussi une place importante dans ce livre qui documernte une cinquantaine de peintures et dessins. Carl Brandon Strehlke propose deux essais consacrés à Fra Angelico dans son temps et à sa réception critique jusqu'à nos jours.
