A fine copy of Lees-Milne's entertainingly unconventional picture of his other, earlier self, covering the period up to the early years of WWll. It ends with a poignant wartime love story. Remarkably well preserved for a fifty four-year old volume, both book and dust jacket are in fine/near fine condition. The green cloth-bound boards are evenly coloured and unmarked: no scratches, dents or bumps. All edges are straight, all corners sharp. The text block is square and tightly bound; the purple stain on the top edge (of the text block) is still quite strongly present but slightly faded; the fore and bottom edges are spotless. Internally all pages are clean, bright and unmarked with no signs of former ownership other than a previous re-sale price written in pencil on the top right of the half-title page. The photo-montage of scenes from the author s life is unfaded and clearly defined. Wood engraving by Reynolds Stone (Tobias and the Angel) reproduced as frontispiece and on the front panel of the dust jacket. The dust jacket retains its crispness and gloss but has a couple of small closed tears at the top and bottom of the fold between the front and spine panels and another tiny split at the bottom right of the front panel.
