About this Item
Early Raubdruck (Pirate Edition), following the first (Königsberg, 1798 ). viii, 356, [4] pp. 1 vols. 8vo. In this, the last work published during his lifetime, Kant laid the groundwork for anthropology as a branch of philosophy and as a modern scientific discipline. Also of interest for his efforts in classifying mental illness: "the sole general characteristic of madness is the loss of the public spirit (sensus cummunis) and the corresponding private spirit (sensus priuatis), e.g., he sees in broad daylight a burning light upon his table, that no one else sees, or hears a voice that no other hears." Borst 814; Warda 195; Adickes 98; Hirschberg 255; Ziegenfuß I, 613 f.; Garrison/Morton 4969 (for first ed.); Waller 19812; Wellcome III, 378 (this ed.) Later quarter green cloth and boards. Some slight toning of text block, else very good Early Raubdruck (Pirate Edition), following the first (Königsberg, 1798 ). Seller Inventory # 53275
