First Edition -- inscribed by Texas Senator Ralph W. and his wife Opal to their son Richard W. Yarborough -- of this history of early relations between the Apache Indian tribe and the Spanish empire in North American in the late 18th century. Has particular focus on the policies and activities of the principal Spanish administrator at the time, Jacobo Ugarte. Has a quite interesting inscription on the front endpaper from Sen. Ralph and Opal Yarborough to son Richard W. Yarborough. The proud parents congratulate the younger Yarborough on his work advocating for restoration of resources denied tribes by unfulfilled treaty obligations. Richard Yarborough, notably, had been a member of the federal Indian Claims Commission following his appointment by President Lyndon Johnson in 1967. The inscription reads: "To Richard W. Yarborough, adjudicator of Land Rights of the wild tribes on the Spanish-Apache Frontier, with pride Ralph W. Yarborough and Opal W. Yarborough, Austin, Texas, Easter 1971.".
