His translations caused uproar in the established church, he was condemned to the stake and all of the bibles which he had mass produced in Worms, Europe were burnt as being heretic. Only a handful survive today. At the time he had only completed the Old Testament, the New Testament translations had not been completed, but he had started to translate them. Myles Coverdale completed the translation and the Coverdale Bible was published in 1535. The Great Bible of 1539 was the first authorised edition of the Bible in English, authorised by King Henry VIII of England to be read aloud in the church. The Bishops' Bible succeeded the Great Bible of 1539. The Bishops' Bible is an English translation of the Bible which was produced under the authority of the established Church of England in 1568. It was substantially revised in 1572, and the 1602 edition was prescribed as the base text for the King James Bible that was completed in 1611. Seller Inventory # 60002555
