Written by Stanford University professor emeritus Donald E. Knuth, the text systematically explores basic programming concepts, mathematical preliminaries, and information structures, including linear lists, trees, multilinked structures, and dynamic memory allocation. The work introduced formal asymptotic methods to measure computational efficiency, serving as the foundational reference for generations of software architects and theoretical mathematicians. Issued as part of the Addison-Wesley Series in Computer Science and Information Processing, the volume is bound in publisher's gold cloth boards set with a dark brown spine panel and gold stamped title lettering. Physical provenance links this volume directly to the IBM Systems Development Division (SDD) Library in Poughkeepsie, New York, stamped March 8, 1968, within weeks of initial release. Poughkeepsie served as IBM's primary software development center during the rollout of the System/360 mainframe architecture, adding corporate computing history context to this publication. Recognized by American Scientist as one of the twelve defining physical-science monographs of the twentieth century, Knuth's treatise incorporates algorithmic examples written in Mix assembly language, bridging early hardware architecture with abstract mathematical logic. Knuth, honored with the 1974 ACM Turing Award and the National Medal of Science, dedicated the volume to an IBM 650 computer, a foundational artifact from the birth of digital computing.…

Shipping terms
DOMESTIC SHIPPING:
We offer a choice of media mail (when applicable), first class, priority and/or expedited whenever possible. Choices for shipping methods vary and will appear at checkout (as well as additional opportunities to purchase insurance, extra insurance, etc.). All domestic orders include tracking.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING:
International shipping has become increasingly complex, but we do our best to keep up. If you have any questions regarding shipping to your country, feel free to reach out before you order. We will do our best to give you an exact quote.
All international orders include tracking and insurance. Expedited orders generally ship via USPS, DHL or Priority Mail International depending on the destination. Consolidated shipping is usually via Asendia or a similar, reliable carrier.
**VAT, Fees & Taxes: **
Where your country requires, and when under the value threshold set by your country, VAT is collected at checkout and remitted by the marketplace you ordered through. Any additional fees, duties, or taxes your country or carrier charges upon arrival are the buyer's responsibility (collected by your postal service or carrier when the package is delivered). The one exception is the European Union (see below).
The European Union:
As of 2026, the EU has added a new customs duty on every parcel entering the Union. Because of this, we are now required to prepay all duty and customs (DDP) before shipping, which is why you may notice that our EU rates run significantly higher than other countries. Additionally, on orders over 150 Euros, the full VAT tax due, over and above €150, is most often not collected by marketplaces at checkout. We may contact you through the marketplace you ordered to collect these additional VAT fees before shipping.
Typical speeds:
Although customs and overseas carrier delays sometimes happen and are outside of our control, the following should be a good guide (Business days only). If you need it faster, feel free to reach out. Sometimes we can achieve the “almost” impossible :)
