Minor edge and corner wear, lightly scuffed, corners are gently bumped and rubbed, some light shelf wear, ex-library with the usual library markings, overall a nice used copy! Very very rare and hard-to-find title! Blue cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. 411 informative and historical pages nicely enhanced by black and white illustrations and many many pages of black and white plates! Extremely scarce! "One of my principal intentions in writing this book was to point out the uselessness of attempting, first, to separate the abstract from the technical aspect of art; and, secondly, the equal folly of seeking to split up technique into various, but supposititious, compartments. This desire led me to avoid, to a great extent, the method of dividing into chapters and into paragraphs classed according to the compartment treated." ---- from the Preface.
