About this Item
An uncommon first edition documenting the eighteen lectures given by Matthew Digby Wyatt, the inaugural Slade Professor of Fine Arts at Cambridge University A first edition of these lectures on fine art delivered by Matthew Digby Wyatt in his position as the inaugural Slade Professor of Fine Arts at Cambridge University. An architect and art historian, Wyatt became architect to the Council of India, and designed the interiors of the India office in London (now part of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office), as well as assisting engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel with the design of Paddington train station. Following an introductory lecture on fine art, the uncommon book dedicates a chapter to the history, theory, and practice of architecture, sculpture, and painting, before going on to discuss ancient and modern applications of fine art in industry.
