About this Item
The tenth volume of 19th century art journal, The Art Union. Illustrated, with engravings of paintings by Ed Landseer, Frederick Richard Lee and William Etty. Volume 10 of the Art Journal, illustrated with engravings and images of sculptures throughout. With 36 plates, collated but incomplete, as missing plate of Napoleon at page 268. Includes embossed colour specimen plate. Founded in 1839, the Art Journal was one of the most important British art magazines of the 19th century. This volume was the last issued under the title The Art Union, as the title of the monthly periodical was changed to The Art Journal halfway through 1848. The volume provides plenty of coverage on contemporary exhibitions and lectures, as well as engraved reproductions of paintings by Ed Landseer, Frederick Richard Lee and William Etty. Rebound in green cloth. Externally sound, with some rubbing to the boards and the spine. Very lightly bumped to the head of the spine, and a little wear to the extremities. Hinge starting at dedication page. Internally, frontispiece disbound, but otherwise the binding is firm. Pages a little age-toned but generally clean, with some foxing to the plates. Very Good.
