Fair first edition cloth with gilt lettering on Spine. No DJ. Two volume set. The spine on volume I is loose and has separated from the endpapers, though not yet shaken. Considerable shelf wear and rubbing to bottom and top of spines for both volumes. There is also some discoloration of the green cloth cover around the edges of the covers on both volumes where it has become a bit yellowish. Foxing to front endpapers of volume I where a newspaper clipping was included for many years. Also typical foxing associated with frontispiece engravings. Otherwise the text and illustrations (which are legion) are flawless throughout both volumes. No markings, tears, or creases. 666 pages total, with pagination running straight through from vol.
