1965. First edition. x, 251pp. Avram Noam Chomsky (born 1928) is an American professor and intellectual, best known for his work in linguistics and social criticism. In Aspects of the Theory of Syntax, he presents a deeper, more extensive reformulation of transformational generative grammar, a new kind of syntactic theory that he had introduced in the 1950s with the publication of his first book, Syntactic Structures. The work is widely considered to be the foundational document and a proper articulation of Chomskyan theoretical framework of linguistics. The book is bound in the original dark blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the spine ends and a small split of about 1/8" in the cloth at both ends of the spine. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with light soiling and rubbing with some creasing along the top edge and more noticeably along the bottom front edge. The front panel of the wrapper is green and the spine is blue, but we are uncertain if this is as printed or the result of fading. Small pieces are missing from the top corners, bottom spine corners and the top of the spine. There are some tears of up to about 3/4" on the edges, including on the spine corners, and most of the tears have been repaired on the reverse with tape.…
