About this Item
Beautiful first edition of these contemporary memoirs of an American broadcaster assigned to Berlin just before America entered World War II, in original dust jacket. Drafted before the attack on Pearl Harbor when the U.S. wasn't yet at war with Germany, this memoirs details the experiences of Harry W. Flannery, who was the Berlin correspondent for Columbia Broadcasting. During the course of his time in Berlin, he experiences the all-consuming propaganda of the Nazis, including their control of the news and information. Yet, the scope of Nazi horrors in the region seep through and Flannery painstakingly catalogues each assault. Among the most valuable parts of this book is a revealing table breaking down the sterilizations performed by the Nazis, information that was available as early as 1941. Contemporary owner gift inscription. Very nearly fine condition. Seller Inventory # 234
