1st edition orig. cloth Nice Copy quarto (96)pp., frontis., b/w plates, Superb photographic study of the war in Algeria. FRENCH TEXT. Mainly full-page & double-page photos with succinct captions by Colonel Bigeard. Colonel, later General, Bigeard fought with great heroism at Bien Dien Phu. He later commanded the 3rd Regiment of Colonial Parachutists in Algeria in 1956-57. He was shown to have allowed, even encouraged torture against suspected FLN terrorists. The most decorated French soldier at the time of his death: holder of the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, the Croix de Guerre (with 17 palms), and 25 citations in dispatches. Signed presentation copy to a Lieutenant in the unit, with an interesting inscription. Very Scarce signed copy. Seller Inventory # 79094
