Item description from seller

xii, 144 pp; 107 figs. Original cloth. Xlib: white ink no. on spine, institutional bookplate. Very Good. First Edition. Garrison-Morton 2843. "A pioneer work on auricular flutter based on 11 personal cases and 42 recorded by others. William Adam Jolly and Ritchie first named this arrhythmia [in 1910, Garrison-Morton 2833] and Ritchie first recognised it in man [1905, Garrison-Morton 2821]" (Bedford 534). Copy of Frank T. (Taylor) Fulton, with his signature on the title page. Quoting from an obituary of Frank Taylor Fulton: "In the summer of 1912 he went to England to study with Sir James McKenzie from whom he learned something of the use of the polygraph. With his own polygraph he recognized and subsequently published the first cases of auricular flutter reported in the American literature. Two years later he went again to England to work with Sir Thomas Lewis on the infant science of electrocardiography. This time he returned with an invoice promising delivery of his own electrocardiograph machine, which, in spite of the hazards of British shipping of World War I, arrived in 1915 and was immediately installed by him at his instigation in Rhode Island Hospital. This private purchase of a machine, the size of an upright piano, installed voluntarily in a hospital seems a far cry from our modern age of expanded hospital budgets, generous grants-in-aid and sixteen pound 'portables'. It was the move that started the development of the Heart Station at Rhode Island Hospital which ever after remained Frank Fulton's great interest.".
