Among the types of slang that are included are listed: betting, bookmakers', burglars', bushrangers', cricketers', gamblers', impostors', lovers', military, navvies', parliamentary, police, racing, rogues', sailors', theatrical, thieves', undertakers', vagrants' and lawyers'. Cornelius Crowe, a fairly obscure figure, was born in Ireland in 1853 and died in Melbourne in 1928. He was a police officer, which is where he presumably gathered much of his slang. He was also the author of "Crowe's Police Manual" among other books. (In 1916 he was charged with criminally libelling another police officer).
