Small octavo. Pp. 4, 248 [1]. Although a London edition was published in the same year, this is the first edition. Margaret Rhames was the matriarch of a family of printers. Prior was founder of the Royal Dublin Society, and a critic of the absentee landlords of Ireland, dedicated this book to the Earl of Chesterfield, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. Contains over 300 anecdotes of tar-water cures. The "Author of Siris," whose letters are here, was George Berkeley. Very faint foxing throughout. Mottled boards, backed in leather, detached. Spine bare. With an interesting group of three letters, two laid-in and one attached to an endpaper, from Walter Leon Sawyer (editor of The Youth's Companion" Boston, 1892-1901) presenting the book to Philip Hale (music critic of the Boston Herald). Sawyer's bookplate is inside the front board, with Hale's name in pencil. Seller Inventory # 008943
