First Edition, this being the standard trade octavo version. 8vo. 19 by 14 cm. xvi, 453, [3], x, 443 pp. Profusely illustrated, with black and white illustrations both mixed in with the text and as full page illustrations in plate format (the flip sides blank). These volumes represent the 20th and 21st volume in the larger Badminton Library series, but they work perfectly well as a small standalone set. The Root & Son binding is quite attractive, with a simple geometric gilt scheme on the spine. The leather is a touch dry, with hints of cracking, and the joints have light rubbing. Scattered foxing, sometimes heavy, but also pages where there is none. Half Morocco. Marbled Paper Pastedown on boards.
