New original shrink wrap! -- Sandstein, 207 pages, IN GERMAN, oblong hardcover with beautiful photos. Ships from Hawaii. --- --- Around the turn of the century, dancing and swinging was the number one leisure activity. In Dresden alone, there were 155 establishments for this purpose before the First World War, with halls full of chandeliers, stucco and plush, even with artistic alpenglow. Around 70 ballrooms survived the Second World War and the GDR, which gradually fell into disrepair or were used for other purposes. Since the 1990s, Ralf Kukula has photographed their morbid charm or renewed splendor and placed historical photos of former splendor and ball glory next to them. Volker Helas has discovered many interesting facts about the lost dance culture and the history of Dresden's ballrooms that go far beyond the local context.
