First edition. Hardback, bound in the original buckram with printed titling to spine and upper board. 32 × 25cm, unpaginated. Charles "Snaffles" Johnson Payne's drawings of horse riding and field sports on the North-West Frontier and in Somaliland, with 12 colour tipped-in plates, and with numerous black and white illustrations within the text. Condition: A good plus copy. There is a little marking to the cloth, and light and occasional spotted foxing throughout but otherwise a nice copy. **PLEASE NOTE: As this is a heavy book, postage may have to be increased for overseas (non-UK) buyers, or decreased where appropriate. Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Light surface wear and soil to cream linen cloth boards, innards fine, no inscriptions, tears or soil. Card laid in stating that the original drawings by "Snaffles" contained in this book will be exhibited during October 1936 at The Sporting Gallery, 70 Jermyn St. London. DJ in acid-free mylar sleeve is a professional reproduction showing only one 1" x 1" bit of loss at foot of rear panel which affects nothing (no text or drawing damaged due to loss). Approx 104 pp with 12 leaves of color mounted plates. Snaffles was born Charlie John Payne in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire in 1884 and died in Wiltshire in 1967. He developed an early passion for hunting in all its forms, and the Services which, as he tells us, "in those days went hand in hand". For well over seventy years he was to be a keen follower of all types of hounds on horseback, on foot or, in his later years, by car. Seller Inventory # 19224
