BAL 13924 - I (earliest) printing, State A Binding. Publisher's black cloth binding with publisher's device (B & S) blindstamped at center of covers. Noticeable rubbing and chipping, some splitting at spine. Title, author's pseudonym "Ik. Marvel" and "Reign of Blouse" printed on spine. l289 pages, foxing throughout. Between page 288 and 289, a publisher's notice is inserted, "The sequel to the "Battle Summer," to be entitled "Reign of Bourgeois," will be published early in the spring." This was actually never published. Donald Grant Mitchell (1822-1908) was an American essayist and novelist, whose most popular work was "Reveries of a Bachelor". He wrote under the pseudonym "Ik Marvel". This work is a collection of his impressions of the 1848 Revolution in France (AKA February Revolution) that ended the Orleans monarchy and ushered in the Second Republic.
