4to. 12 by 9 inches. Unpaginated. Each chromolithographic plate is accompanied by two pages of text describing the epoch and the woman representing it. The women include a druidess, a Roman maid, a Saxon, a Norman, a "White Rose of York", one from the early Tudor period and one from the Elizabethan Age, a Puritan maiden, ones from the reigns of King Charles II, Queen Anne and George II and finally, a woman from Regency England. Clean and tight within, with the original decorative endpapers. Light soiling and edgewear to the binding. Tissue guards intact. Seller Inventory # 002734

Covers soiled and stained, corners and spine ends bumped with wear, small circular stain on end papers up to the verso of the frontispiece (not affecting the frontispiece), many pages have fingers soil in margins, the loose tissue guards are often wrinkled, folded, and chipped, toned or soiled at edges. All the chromolithographs are present and in excellent condition with the exception of the frontispiece which has some finger soil in left blank margin and slightly into the image, one other image has a short line in bottom blank margin not affecting the image. Corners are bumped and front and back covers are slightly soiled. Back cover is sunned across the top measuring 2 1/4 inches wide. The front cover is beginning to separate from binding, but is still intact. There is an inscription on the inside front cover that reads " A Christmas gift to Mabel from her Aunt Margaret Larson, Dec. 25th 1890." This beautiful copy clean and complete.
