Octavo; publisher's cloth-backed boards in pictorial dust jacket by Christopher Williams retaining original price ($3.00); [10],303pp. Moderate wear to jacket margins including brief tape repair at jacket spine ends, crude but brief color fill-in at jacket spine crown, rear flap creased, textblock a bit toned, else a Very Good, straight and sound example. The story of Rosa Moline who marries young to escape small-time life in Wisconsin only to find herself fatally dissatisfied in her marriage. The novel was adapted a year later into the film noir of the same title starring Bette Davis and directed by King Vidor.
