ABOUT THE AUTHOR Maurice Henry Hewlett (1861 - 1923) was an English historical novelist, poet and essayist. Hewlett's 1900 novel The Life and Death of Richard Yea-and-Nay, about Richard the Lionheart, was a favorite novel of T. E. Lawrence. Lawrence said he had read The Life and Death of Richard Yea-and-Nay several times. Another of Hewlett's historical novels was The Queen's Quair (1904), about Mary, Queen of Scots. The Queen's Quair was cited as an influence by Ford Madox Ford, who said that The Queen's Quair "taught me a good deal". CONDITION REPORT VERY GOOD. Very slight spine lean with firm hinges and joints. Rubbing to spine tips and corners with some paper loss at spine tips. Sun-darkened spine. Red mark at top-left corner of front cover. A few spots of light dust soiling. Interior is clean with bright white pages. Former owner stamp on front pastedown and same owner's name in ink on adjacent endpaper. No foxing, no other writing, no stickers or bookplates.
