Octavo (21cm); light gray cloth, with titling and decorations stamped in black and red on spine and front cover; brick red topstain; dustjacket; 357pp. Inscribed by the author opposite the title page: "Dear Evelyne Love Cooper - This one even I like - Thomas Burton." Light wear to spine ends and lower board edges, else Near Fine. The Arthur Hawkins-designed dustjacket is unclipped (priced $2.50), edgeworn, spine-sunned, and lightly dusty overall, with a faint stain and light scratch to front panel; Very Good+. Longstreet's pseudonymous novel chronicles the clash between midwestern farmers and corporate interests over the erection of a hydroelectric dam and powerlines during the 1920's. Stephen Longstreet (1907-2002) was a prolific author and Hollywood screenwriter whose credits included Silver River (1948); The Jolson Story (1946); and, famously, Cecil DeMille's 1951 "The Greatest Show on Earth," for which Longstreet never received credit (nor his share of the Academy Award) despite his sustained contention that he had written the dialogue for the film.
