371lpp. Pictorial softcover, straight spine, tight binding, clean pages. Upper corner of some pages creased, but book has mild wear on the whole. Uncommon first printing of the memoir of Stanley "Tookie" Williams, co-founder of the Crips. He was a powerful figure in South LA in the 1970s, but by 1981, he was on trial for murder. He was convicted on four counts of murder, despite irregularities with his trial that would become clearer and better known with the passing years. He underwent a notable personal rehabilitation in prison and was eventually nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. However, by 2005, his legal appeals were exhausted. He was executed at San Quentin on December 13 of that year. This book, published the previous year, is Williams's account of his life, mistakes and redemption. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall.
