About this Item
[African-American] [Prison] [Drug Addiction] Cain, George. Blueschild Baby. Mcgraw-Hill Book Company, 1970. First Edition, Second printing. 201 Pages. Bound in navy cloth hardcovers with silver lettering on spine. Housed in its original illustrated dustjacket with navy lettering. Blueschild Baby highlights the hidden aspects of a more complex narrative, centering upon the impassioned desperation of an African-American heroin addict who returns to Harlem after serving time in prison. This was a monumental illustration of a heavily marginalized individual, and notably, semi-autobiographical. In The New York Times Book review, the scholar of black American literature Addison Gayle Jr. called it "the most important work of fiction by an Afro-American since Native Son'". Dustjacket is in very good condition. Very light stains on front and back blank endsheets. Bright pages, overall in very good condition. Seller Inventory # 19194
