First edition. 12mo plum cloth stamped in blind and gilt, with an elaborate gilt depiction of a rowing scull and its inhabitants on the spine. Neat gift inscription on front fly, light, diffuse stain to lower front cover, else a bright, superior copy of a notoriously scarce and fragile publication. A card with Adams' signature with "Oliver Optic" below, laid in. Preserved in a custom brown half-morocco slipcase and chemise. Peter Parley to Penrod, page 12.
