First Edition. xiii, 320 pages. 11 1/2 x 8 inches. Original illustrated wrappers. Small tear to the front wrapper at head of panel. Bright and clean internally. Wraps. From the reference library of Philip Stanley (collector, scientific instrument dealer) with his inventory number sticker on the front flyleaf. "Perhaps not surprisingly, the National Museums of Scotland possess the largest and most comprehensive collection of Scottish-made scientific instruments. An already strong collection was supplemented by that amassed by Mr. Arthur Frank which was part purchased, part generously donated to the Museums. This book documents that collection and provides hitherto ungathered material about the workships which constructed the instruments." (preface).
