hardback, quarto, measuring 15 1/2" x 12 1/4", pictorial ivory cloth lettered black, top edge gilt remaining edges rough-trimmed, cloth darkened in pat and slightly lifted toward the joint of the upper board, rubbed with some loss at head and foot, corners of the boards lightly knocked, the binding remains tight. Illustrated with thirteen electrogravure etchings, 12 further full page plates and numerous illustrations to the text by J E Millais, the electro plates have notable foxing, signature of a previous owner and a bookplate of a subsequent owner to the front pastedown, the body of the text is clean and unmarked, x + 236pp. A heavy book, which may, if ordered from outside the United Kingdom, attract a request for additional postage.
