First Edition. Octavo (8vo). 191 pp. Publisher's original yellow silk-finished cloth, elaborately decorated in black and gilt with a classical allegorical figure to the front board. Burgundy and black lettering to spine and upper cover. Marbled page edges. Illustrated throughout with numerous wood engravings and six full-color maps, including maps of Greece and Europe preceding the title page and additional maps within the text.

Contents remain clean and complete. Light pencil ownership markings to endpapers and a few brief notes within the text. Light to moderate shelf wear at corners and spine ends. Binding remains sound and square. The decorative cloth and marbled edges remain attractive and well preserved.
