Café-au-lait wrappers, printed paper label. Edition limited to 170 numbered copies. Edith Sichel was a writer and "amateur philanthropist" whose critique of George Gissing in Murray's Magazine in 1888 attracted Gissing's attention (though he didn't take to the title, "Two Philanthropic Novelists: Mr Walter Besant and Mr George Gissing"). The two corresponded frankly between 1889 and 1890; on their meeting he was disturbed by his feelings towards her. Halliwell A122. Coustillas G13a.
