Publisher's original brown cloth; gilt vignette and decorative black border on front board; gilt lettering on spine; blind-stamped border on rear. Blue-green endpapers. Boards with a few spots and marks, rubbed especially to edges; corners bumped; cloth fraying at ends of spine; spine discoloured and slightly cocked. Ownership inscription to front free endpaper. Foxing to preliminary pages; occasional spots elsewhere. Front hinge cracked but holding; gutters cracked in a couple of places and one gathering coming loose (but still attached).
