Original hardcover binding with worn half leather on front and rear. Volume One only. Nine raised bands on calf spine, with highly legible title on a black background. Binding is solid, hinges are cracked. Paper is almost entirely free of age spots. Twelve color plates are printed on heavy paper and are fresh and bright. Eight folding maps and eight full-page maps are also printed on heavy paper. Contemporary bookplate of Robert Fanshaw Martin. a noted military man in Her Majesty's Service, which shows a raised hand holding a sword under the words "Pro Patria." The first journal is dated October 1798, the final one is dated September 1799. Large 8vo. Includes index to the first volume, directions to the binder for facing the plates, and errata.
