British Rail In Action

As British Rail moves into the air-conditioned 125 mph era it is difficulat to realise that the steam age ended only a decade ago - difficult becuase so much has happened in that 10 years to change the face of BR, not only with new locomotives but also wholesale resignalling, station rebuilding, and simplification of tracks and other features. Today, many important stations, junctions, depots and yards of the past heve either disappeared or changed out of all recognition. Yet diesel traction has been a feature of BR operation for more than 20 years and electric tractionhas over 80 years of history in Britain.
