8vo (small). Blue cloth, gilt spider on front board, xx, [1] 280pp, [16 ads], with 16 plates [14 of which are exquisitely hand colored by Tuffen West. Name on half-title, bookseller label on bottom front pastedown, spine faded, light rubbing and edgewear, near fine. Eliza Fanny Staveley (1831-1903),[1] published as E.F. Staveley, was a British entomologist, arachnologist. Chapters include: "Structure of the Spider," "On Collecting Spiders," and "Tabular Arrangement of Nests, Cocoons, and Eggs.".
