These super-broad (almost 10' wide) railroads would have supported two-story locomotives that were intended to be extremely high speed. The author provides a good short history of broad gauge railroads in the US and Europe before turning to the German proposal: the sources for the idea (called the Breitspur-Fernbahn), the reasons for Hitler's interest, the locomotive and station designs, the interiors, and the consideration of electric, steam turbine and diesel motive power.
