About the Author

John D. Michne is a retired chemist and gamma ray spectroscopist. Among his many boatbuilding awards, his reproduction Virginia won Best in Show at the annual Northeastern Woodworkers Showcase 2002 and his 14' Adirondack guideboat won the Best in Show and People's Choice awards at the NWA's 2004 show. Michael J. Olivette is Associate Dean in the College of Professional Studies at the University of Scranton and has spent much of his life exploring New York State's Adirondack Mountains. He is a licensed Adirondack guide who, like the guides of the old days, is also an accomplished carpenter, furniture maker, and boat builder.
