Whenever I get in touch with the art of the Bulgarian national embroidery my heart is filled with admiration and pride for being myself a Bulgarian and a descendent of the women who have created that unique beauty. Our great grandmothers were unschooled but they were natural born artists. Leaded by a perfect sense of rhythm and harmony both in the composition and in the col- or they depicted their time and the surrounding world right on the textile using only needles and thread. Their unique embroidered ornaments appear to be a specific language telling us about the past and the way of life then, as well as about the fascination of nature. For all this the Bulgarian embroidery can be compared to our fairy-tales or songs. I visited a large part of the museums all over Bulgaria to learn more about this beautiful art and to see and copy more of its ornaments. Thus I gather a lot of original and never published by now patterns. I got to the conviction that they represent a great treasure kept in the funds of our ethnographic museums. But the access to this treasure is difficult and I would say almost impossible. A long time after my visits I spared thinking how it could be arranged that this marvellous Bulgarian art can be brought to more people, especially to the young, who hardly know it. I could not reconcile myself to the situation that it is locked and does not get to everyone. Thinking over the fact I came to the conclusion that publishing the patterns could be a decision of the problem. So I conceived the idea of creating an album showing at least a tiny part of this exquisite beauty. Profusamente ilustrados. 103 + 103 pp. Apaisados: 22 x 29. Tapa dura de editorial ilustrada.
