There is a photographic Christmas Card from the author to the previous owner of the book dated Dec 20 1954 with three full pages of writing signed by the author. The title page has six inked lines of inscription signed by the author Christmas 1954. This narrative is a guide for visitors to the scenes of the two Bull Run campaigns; it is intended simply to tell them of the story of the battlefield areas in simple and concise language, and to inform them of where and how to find the existing points of interest, including not only the battlefields, but the houses and other landmarks of the Virginia countryside. Though making no compromise with accuracy, this account is not designed primarily as a work of erudition; it is not encumbered with a formidable bibliography; nor has it hundreds of references to cited authorities.
