Item description from seller

First impression of the true first edition, published in medium-format hardcover in 1978. Nicely illustrated throughout in monochrome, including illustrated endpapers. ***Near fine in brown cloth-covered boards, with gilt titles to the spine. The boards are beautifully clean and unmarked, with just slight creasing at the head and tail of the spine - no other creases or bumps. Corners sharp. Page block edges clean. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally also near fine, with no inscriptions, and no marks or foxing to the interior pages. Pages clean and bright. No creases or tears. Published on nice quality paper. ***In a near fine colour-illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of £5.95 net. The dustwrapper shows no discernible faults, other than very light rubbing and creasing to the edges, and slight fading to the spine colour. Dustwrapper clean and bright. ***253mm x 195mm. 144 pages including Bibliography, Acknowledgements and Index at the back of the book. ***'At 9 a.m. on 25 August 55 BC, eighty warships and transports lay at anchor under the shadow of the South Foreland cliffs. Looking up at the cliff-tops, the Roman commander, Caius Julius Caesar, saw thousands of British warriors from all the tribes of the South, ready to resist with force the imperialism of Rome. "Caesar's Invasion of Britain" does much more than tell the story of the abortive invasions of 55 and 54 BC. the book surveys the cultural achievements, religious practices, government, economy, and military organization of the British Celts. It shows that the Britons were not crude, woad-painted savages but members of a complex cultured society.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper)***A first impression of the true first edition, published in 1978. A nicely illustrated study on the Roman invasion of Britain. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.…
