About this Item
Octavo (9.75 inches). 2 George V, Chapter 27 (Statutes of Canada). Caption title, 78 pages. Royal coat of arms. Neatly extracted from a bound volume and expertly mended. Wheat production and sales were hugely influential on the domestic economy of Canada. Until the early 1900s, grain marketing in Canada was a private industry undertaken by individuals or groups of farmers who dealt directly with private elevator companies, railways, and the Winnipeg Grain Exchange for weighing, grading, pricing, and delivery of their grain. By this Act, the government entered the business of grain marketing and established the Canadian Grain Commission as the official inspector and weigher of grain (but the pricing and delivery of grain remained a private industry).
