About this Item

Description:

First impression of the first US paperback edition, including two new articles by Ayn Rand which did not appear in the hardcover edition. Originally published in 1966 by the New American Library in a trade hardcover and a signed limited edition of 700 copies. ***Very good in printed card wrappers. Covers quite clean, but with some marks and creasing commensurate with age and handling. There is a sticker to the top of the front wrapper which has the UK price of 8/6 crossed out. Some light reading creases to the spine. Back wrapper scuffed with some loss of text. Spine tight. No cracking. No tears. No foxing. No inscriptions. ***349 pages including a Recommended Bibliography, Index plus three pages of publisher's adverts. 176 mm x105 mm. ***'The foundations of Capitalism are being battered by a flood of altruism; the laissez-faire system is in danger of complete collapse. This is the view of Ayn Rand and the Objectivists, a view so radically opposed to prevailing attitudes that it constitutes a major philosophic revolution. In a series of essays the Objectivists present their stand on the persecution of big business, the causes of war, the student rebellion, the evils of altruism. Here is a challenging new look at modern society, by one of the most provocative intellectuals on the American scene.' [Quote from back wrapper] ***'Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal is a collection of essays, mostly by the philosopher Ayn Rand, with additional essays by her associates Nathaniel Branden, Alan Greenspan, and Robert Hessen. The authors focus on the moral nature of laissez-faire capitalism and private property.' [Wiki] ***First impression of the first US paperback edition, with additional content. Uncommon in the UK. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # PB116a
