Octavo, pp. [1-3] 4-47 [48], original gray wrappers printed in black, sewn. First edition. Written by a pro-Disraeli, anti-Gladstone conservative unhappy with the 1878 Treaty of Berlin which restructured the map of the Balkan region following the Russian victory against the Ottoman Empire in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. A world war erupts when Afghanistan invades India and its troops are welcomed by local rulers who have been turned against England by anti-British propaganda. Meanwhile France and Germany collude to annex various regions and countries in Europe resulting in a total defeat of allied troops of Belgium, England and Holland by Germany. The Germans invade England and within a month have an army of more than 850,000 men in Lincolnshire. Ultimately, the British defeat the Germans at the Battle of Redditch and world order is quickly restored. Of all the political tracts utilizing the structure and theme of Chesney's THE BATTLE OF DORKING (1871), this pamphlet, probably published in 1879 or 1880, is the rarest. Not found in any of the standard or specialized bibliographies or checklists of science fiction and fantasy literature. Wrappers worn, mostly along spine fold, rear wrapper detached, a good copy.
