CAVANAGH FOREST RANGER A ROMANCE OF THE MOUNTAIN WEST BY H. GARLAND 1910 1ST. I am pleased to offer a nice copy of what I believe is a First Edition by a prolific American author who would win a Pulitzer and publish many books. Please find: Cavanagh Forest Ranger A Romance of the Mountain West, by Hamlin Garland. I was able to find some information about this author on Wikipedia a bit of which I transcribe here below for your further information (and with my thanks and occasional contributions to Wikipedia), as follows: Hannibal Hamlin Garland (September 14, 1860 March 4, 1940) was an American novelist, poet, essayist, short story writer, Georgist, and psychical researcher. He is best known for his fiction involving hard-working Midwestern farmers. I was intrigued by this book because as a forester myself, it is about a forester, something not too common as a subject. This small hard cover book (5 ¼ x 7 ½ inches, 301 pages) was published by Harper & Brothers of New York, dated 1910 and I believe a First Edition. It is bound in blue green cloth with black and orange titles and decorations on cover and spine. Interestingly, there is an Introduction by Gifford Pinchot who was the First Chief of the U.S. Forest Service appointed to the post by President Theodore Roosevelt. There is a tissue-guarded photo of a Forest Ranger on horseback surveying the mountains as the Frontiepiece. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are a bit dust dulled and lightly rubbed at the corners and spine tips. Inside, a former owner has left her penciled name and other data on the front endpaper (which could probably be erased). There is a water stain on the tissue guard and frontispiece which lightly shades the title page (please see the photos) but does not affect any other pages. Inside, the pages are still bright with occasional small instances of light soiling. The front hinge is cracked, the rear intact and the binding seems tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.…
