A first impression of the true first edition, published as a paperback original. ***A near fine copy in illustrated matt-finish card covers. There are no faults to the book which is near fine - just a few finger marks to the matt-finish of the surface of the covers. Internally near fine with no inscriptions. Pages clean and white. The first and last blank leaves are nicely embossed with the publisher's monogram design. ***72 pages plus two pages of author biography and publishing details at the back of the book. ***229 mm x 153 mm. ***'"The Children" examines the ache and balm of nostalgia; nature's cycles of brideliness, decay, and rebirth; and the beauty that is the afterimage of loss. Isolation is embodied by such figures as Melville at his desk, Christ on the morning of His arrest, Woolf walking into the Ouse, and a lynching victim as viewed by child witnesses. Contemporary questions of selfhood and solitude are explored with luminous depth. In a landscape of dogwood and locust, "The Children" offers us life twice seen, sorrowful and sumptious.' (Quote taken from the back cover) ***A first impression of the true first edition of this poetry collection in near fine condition. A beautifully produced paperback original. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. …

"Nostalgic"
Jar of feathers becoming,
finally, another map:
cloistered homage to a decade of geese
haunting the grid of our
steadfastness.
Un-find the coveted
ibis; kiss the scarlet of the robin's
blurred departure.
In the end, we were landmark,
compass, same as the lingered-over
pond, the marsh
where cattails remained when all else
left. Ragged in salt,
cloud-headed.
Paula Bohince's poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The Nation, and Poetry. She has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Amy Clampitt Trust, and the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, and an Amy Lowell Poetry Travelling Scholarship.
