1st Printing. 210 pages. Published in 1973. Monograph on subject, presented as an Artist Book. One of the earliest and most beautiful books on the art and achievement of Chinese and Annamese ceramics ever published in the 20th century. Limited Edition of 1200 numbered copies. Published in this small and limited format as a Slipcased Edition only. The Limited Edition is now rare. An austerely elegant production by Hugh Moss: Oversize-volume format. Handsome brown cloth boards with gilt titles embossed on the spine, as issued. Photographs of ceramic art. Text by Joseph M. Adrian. Matching Slipcase with pictorial reproductions and gilt titles on the spine, as issued. The production values are outstanding in every respect. Without DJ, as issued. Presents "Chinese And Annamese Ceramics Found In The Philippines And Indonesia". An affirmation of the ground-breaking (literally) diggings conducted in the region that yielded these ceramic treasures. The ceramics from Chinese Dynasties as well as the ancient Annamese Kingdom (of present-day Vietnam), whose near-ethereal beauty is breathtaking and unsurpassed, is also tangible, archeological evidence of the major trades and exchanges that took place during the period, interrupted only by internal struggles within China and the ancient Annamese Kingdom. The only other book of comparable importance in and of itself is the late great Philippine National Artist Leandro (and wife Cecilia) Locsin's pioneering "Oriental Ceramics Found In The Philippines" (1967). Both volumes are valuable because they are pioneering and influential, preceding by decades in some cases, the plethora of books published in our time. An absolute "must-have" title for collectors of Chinese and Vietnamese ceramic art. This is a copy of the Slipcased Limited Numbered Edition, indicated as such on the Limitation Page. This title is a great art book, treasurable in its own right. This is one of very few copies of the Limited Edition still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. This is the single most beautiful copy we have ever seen. Please note: Inexplicably enough, the few remaining copies available online have very serious flaws ("Good", "Very Good") yet are sometimes priced at unheard-of prices (because the book is rare in any condition). This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare copy thus. Showcases 125 works of ceramic art. Lavishly illustrated with magnificent color plates. One of the most beautiful books on Asian ceramic traditions ever published in the 20th century. A fine collectible copy.
