First edition. A curious book. The book illustrates fireplaces, picture frames, chimney pieces, watch cases, brackets, ornamental furniture, and designs--all in the French high rococo style--mostly by Thomas Johnson, whose name was removed from the plates by the publisher and replaced with Chippendale's--ostensibly to fool the reader. A second, engraved title page is a copy of Matthew Lock's engraving from A Book of Ornaments, also published by Weale. This present volume is most uncommon. The NUC only cites three copies in American libraries. A small water-stain on the lower tip of the first five plates, else very good.
